body-conditioning

Brilliant news -  I am launching a new Body Conditioning class at Nodehill Middle School (Newport) on Thursday evenings 6-7 pm starting on the 18th of February – £4 a session.  This class will help you tackle all your ‘problem’ areas (typically legs, bums, tummies, upper arms etc) by building long, lean muscle mass and burning lots of fat in the process.

Lean muscle mass is the only tissue in the body that can metabolise fat directly as an energy source.  By increasing the amount of lean muscle mass in our bodies we are therefore able to burn more fat directly while performing our usual daily activities.  Excellent!

The class will also be set to the usual mix of fantastically camp pop mix medleys so you always have something fun to sing along to and take your mind off the hard work your body is doing    ;o)

Exciting new projects

EMH butterflyI’m very excited about all the new projects that are lining up on the horizon.  Keen readers of the newsletter will see that a ‘Team Dancerobics’ is being organised to Walk the Wight.  If you are interested in supporting the fantastic Earl Mountbatten Hospice and continue improving your own health and well being along the way then why not Walk the Wight as part of the team with me and others from Dancerobics.  We will of course make it as fun as possible and have training sessions and pub lunches along the way.  We could even have a little walking – Dancerobics routine to keep us and others amused along the walk!  (There’s the exhibitionist in me again  ;o)

race-for-lifeUnfortunately it seems that there may not be a ‘Race for Life’ event on the Island this year.  That’s not confirmed so don’t take it as gospel but it would be very said if it were to happen.  Luckily Isle of Wight Fitness will be teaming up with www.lyssatrumanzumbafitness.com to provide a ‘Fit for Life’ event.  An afternoon of potentially 8 different fantastic group exercise classes for people to take part in with all class fees donated to Cancer Research.  It will definitely be a fantastic event and as the details get planned I will keep you fully informed.

Keep dancing!

darcey leaping spanishIt was fantastic to see so many people at Dancerobics last night at the Fitness Factory.  It was clear from the laughter in the room that everyone was enjoying themselves.  I really think we’ve hit on a winning combination with the mix of camp choreography – sing-a-long tunes and friendly atmosphere that we’ve created.

If you want to come to Dancerobics tonight at The Heights Leisure Centre, Sandown it really is advisable to book as that class can become very busy and I’d hate you to go home disappointed.

Don’t forget that places are selling fast on my Fat-Loss Bootcamp (Drop a Dress size in 4 weeks) www.bootcampisleofwight.comand my first 2 Fitness Pilates courses www.fitnesspilatesisleofwight.comso call The Heights now on (01983) 405594 to book a place on either of those or to reserve your place for Dancerobics.

I’m gonna learn how to fly! High!

fitness-magazineAt this time of year many of us make an annual resolution to get fitter and healthier during the year ahead.  With gusto we buy new trainers, take out gym memberships and embark on new diets.  We are subjected to a plethora of advertising about what’s good for you, what’s not and how this latest wonder diet / technological gizmo is going to transform our bodies into facsimiles of the cover models on fitness magazines.

We all understand that taking more exercise and eating less junk food is good for us but with so much conflicting advice out there it is difficult to know who to trust let alone decide which path to take to achieve our goals.  However, do we really understand what we are getting fit for?  It is a common misconception that one can become ‘fit’ but this is a misnomer.  We can only become ‘fit’ for a purpose.  So what is the purpose that we are becoming fit for?

In response to that question I would answer that we need to become fit for life.  That is to say that we should be easily fit enough to perform our ordinary daily activities including walking, climbing stairs and hills and lifting and carrying heavy shopping.  If our lifestyles include sporting hobbies or more active pursuits then we need to be fit enough to perform these too.  If we are getting stiff and sore and our knees are complaining while we simply move around our houses or when we are getting off our sofas then our fitness levels are certainly out of balance with our fitness needs.

There are also many health benefits from undertaking regular exercise.  These include lowering the risk of developing cardio-vascular disease, delaying the onset and alleviating the symptoms of osteoarthritis and combating feelings of depression and anxiety.

Don’t allow your New Year’s resolutions for 2010 to fall by the wayside.  Taking action, just one small step at a time, will be rewarded richly in fitness and health benefits and you will feel great.

Coming soon – a new simple ‘Dance and Tone’ all over body conditioning class at Nodehill Middle School!  Keep your eyes on www.isleofwightfitness.com for more details shortly.
